I called my Dad
We have a client in the QSR space (that’s quick serve restaurant for those not in the industry) who has a handful of locations that are always difficult to staff. It’s hard to find, hire and retain good store managers at these locations, which has the obvious trickle down effect of it being difficult to retain the hourly team members as well. This is common when you own a fleet of stores that are spread out. Whether you are in retail, restaurants, home healthcare, car rental services or warehousing, disseminating culture from HQ out into the field is difficult. Finding field leaders who take ownership in their job and instill that same attitude into the team members that they hire, is very difficult. But it’s easier when you have the right hiring tool.Over the weekend, I tried to fix an under cabinet light fixture in the kitchen. It wouldn’t turn on and hasn’t in over a year. So finally, I’d had enough and decided to rip it out and determine the issue: is it the fixture or the electricity itself? As you know, nothing is ever as simple and easy as you want it to be. I struggled just to remove the fixture due to the nature of where and how it was installed. I struggled to get an accurate reading of the wire feeding into the fixture: where they hot or not? Did I even have the lightbulb properly inserted? After way too much time had passed for what should have been a 10 minute project (at least as I saw it), I did what I always do. I called my Dad. He can fix anything. He has every tool that has ever been made and then some. He’s even made his own tools for situations that required such specialization. He came over and in under 10 minutes (see I knew it should not have taken more time that that!) he had properly removed the fixture, tested it, tested the electricity of the wires feeding into the fixture and made a diagnosis. It was easy because he had the right tools. I knew what to do; I was raised on fixing everything in the house. I just didn’t have the right tools for the job and therefore; I was making this little project harder than it needed to be. Our QSR client hired us to find the right managers for these difficult locations. Our tools are different from the other guys. They are specific for this job. Just like I needed a specific set of tools to fix my stupid light fixture. Are you using the wrong tools for your recruiting needs? In 10 days, we delivered 10- 15 applications per location for the store manager role. Not a lot. Could have gotten about 100 from other hiring software. And spent 100x too. But here’s the thing. They interviewed half of them. And made hires. And this was back in the fall. Those hires have made hires and those locations are making positive changes. Our hiring tools are not for everyone. We only work with clients who want to make a change and actually hire people that apply. If you believe that BETTER HIRES LEAD TO HIGHER REVENUE, then we might be able to work together. To set up a call, click here to access my calendar. Happy Recruiting! |
